Hot Meal Program: Hundreds of fresh, nutritious meals are delivered each week to isolated individuals throughout the Comox Valley. Meals are prepared by LUSH Valley staff and volunteers and delivered by volunteer drivers from partner organizations. Menus vary from week to week and incorporate a diverse selection of locally grown ingredients and locally sourced protein.
Healthy Student Meal Program: Provides nutritious meals and snacks to more than 1,000 students each week across 20 schools in the Comox Valley. Each Monday, volunteers assemble meal kits that include whole food ingredients and recipe cards. The kits are delivered to participating schools by volunteer drivers. Indigenous Support Workers then facilitate student participation in preparing meals to share with their peers, supporting food skills development and community connection.
Community Kitchens: Community Kitchens provide opportunities to learn cooking and food processing skills in a welcoming and engaging environment. The program views food as a tool for empowerment and focuses on offering resources, knowledge, and barrier-free opportunities that help participants build confidence in preparing healthy meals. For information on upcoming Community Kitchens, please visit the Events page.
Young Cooks The Young Cooks program provides youth aged 7–14 with opportunities to develop culinary and food safety skills in safe and engaging environments. Program formats vary and may include four-week after-school sessions, spring break and summer day camps, and half-day sessions delivered within Comox Valley schools.
The Fruit Tree and Farm Gleaning Program: Utilizes volunteers to harvest and redistribute thousands of pounds of fresh fruit and produce from homes, farms and orchards that would otherwise go to waste, and re-distributes the produce back to the community. The program increases access to fresh local produce for people who need it, decreases food waste and emissions, and decreases bears and other animal attractants.
The Community Garden: provides a safe and nurturing place where families and individuals who don’t have access to garden space can grow food for themselves, their family and/or their community.
