Comox Valley Food Bank (CVFB)

Provided by Comox Valley Food Bank

Food Bank distributes free supplementary food to people in need
The CVFB reaches a wide range of urban and rural populations in the Comox Valley, from Oyster River in the North to Cook Creek in the South, including Hornby and Denman Island residents. The CVFB strives towards producing larger quantities of items in food hampers, better quality food, fresh produce, and healthy children’s snacks.

Services:
Monthly Household Hamper Pickup: For families in need of food. When going to the food bank, please bring a picture ID such as a Driver’s Licence, BCID, Care Card or birth certificate for your children. Once registered, only the person picking up for your family each week will be required to show ID – see below food hamper hours.

Drop-In Service: If you are looking for fruit, vegetables or bread to help you get by for the week, visit the food bank any weekday – see below for hours.

Home Delivery: To increase the accessibility of food for local residents, the Home Delivery Program delivers a hamper to clients with mobility issues every four weeks. Qualifying clients will need their health care professional to complete a section of the application describing the mobility issue and potential duration that home delivery is required. Space is limited.

The Healthy Families Program: Supports pregnant women, parents and caregivers to provide children (ages birth up to 6th year) with a strong foundation in life. The service includes home visitation, free prenatal vitamins, food coupons, emergency food hampers, clothing sharing shelves, emergency diapers and infant formula, children’s books, cooking classes & workshops, fresh garden produce and farmers market coupons.

Weekly drop-in groups help families access parent-child resources and an opportunity to develop new social connections. Families can learn about parenting & life skills, community resources, child development, nutrition and healthy living. Parents, facilitators and guest speakers share ideas and information. Safe and stimulating childcare gives children the opportunity to play with age-appropriate toys and participate in free play, songs and story-time.

Additionally, the program provides a team of nurses, nutritionists, infant development specialists, early childhood educators and outreach workers for individual support to strengthen learning, well-being and personal growth. Healthy meals and transportation to groups are always available. Email, phone, or visit in person to register for the program.
