Provides additional levels of support for Members through outreach, legal system supports, financial assistance program(s) and an Elders Centre
The purpose of Ts’its’ixwnítway is to ensure that fair and equitable treatment and services are provided to all Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members, including outreach, estates planning, funerals, assistance with the justice and courts system, and emergency utility/food/housing supports. Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) supports members and growth within the community through different Divisions. The following programs are part of the People Services Division - Nexwnínlhewá7nem Ch'áwch’aw.
  • North Vancouver Elders Centre: Provides programming for Elders aged 55+ to support social connection, independence and overall wellbeing though weekly activities like lunches, chair yoga, Squamish language class, weaving etc. Outings are also planned to visit different locations, and there are quarterly Birthday Lunches and an annual Christmas Lunch.
  • Emergency Member Support Services (EMSS): Team works with Members who are seeking emergency financial support to complete an intake and explore all options for the Nation Member.
  • Estate Assistance: The team will work with Members in administering estates, helping to complete various documents including a will and applying for financial aids (CPP, OAS, GIS). Will also provide information and support to/for survivors, proof of heirs, and matters concerning Power of Attorney and Representative Agreements.
  • Funerals & Events: This team provides funeral support and services to Members and families within the community, in addition to coordinating events for the Nation and managing the current fish food storage and supply.
  • Income Assistance: Assists Members living on-reserve to access and efficiently administer the Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) Income Assistance program.
  • Justice, Court & Reintegration Supports: This program is available for all Members involved in any level of the criminal justice system, and includes access to legal aid, guidance through court process, support during sentencing, involvement in restorative or alternative measures, probation, and more.
  • Outreach Services: Support Members in need and can involve liaising with local shelters or hospitals.
